The California Energy Commission has awarded a five-year, $5 million grant to fund the San Diego Regional Energy Innovation Cluster, a nine-member partnership among regional business organizations and academic institutions that will connect entrepreneurs in San Diego, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino counties to resources to help them successfully bring energy innovations to market.

CSE's Equinox Project today (May 3, 2016) released the 2016 San Diego Regional Quality of Life Dashboard, which assesses the top economic and environmental indicators to gauge the region’s progress toward sustainability.

CSE has published a policy paper titled Natural Gas as a Bridge Fuel – Measuring the Bridge, which recognizes the role natural gas plays in phasing out the a nation’s use of dirtier fossil fuels, but concludes specific plans are needed to chart a course away from all fossil fuel use to achieve long-lasting greenhouse gas reductions.

In order to make clean vehicles more accessible to a greater number of California drivers, especially in communities that are highly impacted by air pollution, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) is implementing increased incentive levels for low- and moderate-income consumers and high-income eligibility caps. The California Air Resources Board (ARB) approved the changes in June 2015, as directed by the Charge Ahead California Initiative established by Senate Bill 1275 (De León).

Newly formed Equinox Project will enhance and expand quality of life research and analysis

CSE has announced a merger with the San Diego-based nonprofit Equinox Center. The union officially creates the Equinox Project, an initiative to be directed by CSE to enhance and expand the work of the former Equinox Center, which focused on environmental, economic and civic affairs in the region.

Rebates are helping to rev up Massachusetts drivers to buy and lease electric vehicles (EVs) since they went into effect in June 2014. Nearly three-quarters of recent EV customers who participated in a survey indicated financial incentives were an important factor in their decision to go electric, according to data released by CSE for the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER).

The Energy Upgrade California team recognized the UCLA Sustainability Team at the UCLA basketball game at Pauley Pavilion on November 15. The UCLA Sustainability Team, led by Nurit Katz, the chief sustainability officer, has done an outstanding job of implementing sustainability in sports and recreation at UCLA. The game was dedicated to sustainability.

CSE Earns 2017 ENERGY STAR Award for Energy Upgrade California

CSE has received a 2017 ENERGY STAR Award for Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion for outstanding efforts to promote energy-efficient products in the Energy Upgrade California program. CSE’s accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., on April 26, 2017.

CSE to Administer Charge NY Drive Clean Rebate Initiative

Rebate designed to accelerate adoption of electric vehicles throughout the state

The Center for Sustainable Energy has been selected by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to administer the Charge NY Drive Clean Rebate initiative, which is aimed at increasing the adoption of electric vehicles by consumers and fleet managers­ in the state.

New Tool Reveals CA Neighborhoods with Best Potential for Home Energy Improvements

The Center for Sustainable Energy® (CSE) has launched the new Home Energy Improvement Potential Map. The free online resource gives contractors, home energy raters, real estate agents and local governments a tool to identify California homeowners and communities by ZIP code and census tract where residents are most likely to engage in energy improvements from energy efficiency upgrades to solar installations and electric vehicle purchases.
