San Diego, CA (May 16, 2013) – The latest survey data on how California’s plug-in electric vehicle ( PEV) drivers use and charge their cars indicates that the majority of respondents have high overall satisfaction with their choice to go electric and use their PEVs as their primary transportation. Under funding from the California Air Resources Board, the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) conducts ongoing PEV owner surveys as part of the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project.

Research study looks at energy storage applications

CCSE is teaming up with the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory ( NREL) to study how lithium ion batteries from electric vehicles (EVs) can have a “second life” in energy storage. The $700,000 award from NREL will be leveraged by an ongoing California Energy Commission-funded CCSE/UC Davis study on the repurposing of used EV batteries for home energy storage.

California Races Ahead in Electric Car Adoption

Sales of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in California exceeded 100,000 cars at the end of August, making it the nation’s EV leader and driving the state closer toward Governor Jerry Brown’s goal of 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on California roadways by 2025.

Data collected by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) show state residents bought 102,440 PEVs from December 2010 through August 2014, approximately 40 percent of all the PEVs sold in the U.S.
