We accelerate the adoption of clean and efficient energy solutions via program administration, technical assistance, policy innovation, and other forms of market facilitation. We are uniquely positioned and engaged with a variety of stakeholders and market actors, including policy-makers, state and federal agencies, regional and local governments, utilities, business and civic leaders, and individuals in both the general market and equity sectors. Our technical areas of focus include distributed energy resources (renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage, fuel cells, combined heat and power) and clean transportation.

Responsible for overseeing and guiding the day-to-day operations of assigned staff, programs and projects.  Performs business development to secure department funding, including strategy setting, partnership building, and proposal development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and guide DER managers as they manage projects and subordinates. Support managers as they track and manage project expenditures and activities to ensure project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Maintain an understanding of, and comply with, all contractual terms and conditions of assigned projects and programs. Supervise and coach team regarding quality assurance/quality control, and all other activities related to assigned projects and programs
  • Manage department budget and regularly monitor actual expenses versus budgeted amounts.  Communicate significant budget variances to executive management.  Recommend budget revisions and/or changes to department activities that keep expenses within budget and staff utilization rates on target.
  • Perform business development activities including identifying appropriate funding opportunities, building relationships with existing and new partners, and responding to proposals. Apply knowledge of DER market and lessons learned through program implementation to support development of innovative program designs, scopes of work, and budgets in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Identify and pursue opportunities for proactive business development with key clients.  
  • Monitor daily activities and processes to ensure that procedures are working to achieve program goals. Provide direction to project staff regarding special cases. Identify opportunities to improve processes to maximize efficiency.
  • Create, identify, and support professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Facilitate coordination across departments, project teams, and staff functions as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required

  • Required working knowledge of project management principles, negotiating, executing and managing grant agreements and government contracts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management through all five phases (initiating, planning, execution, monitoring, closing).
  • Demonstrated success in securing new business through development of relationships and proposals.
  • Strong familiarity with clean energy regulatory policy, particularly in California.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to successful and fulfilling outcomes.
  • Extremely detail-oriented; exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to perform within required deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, time management and planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high-level of abilities of various computer software programs and fluency in using standard office software packages such as MS Office: Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Fluent with MS Office 2007 Suite and Windows XP.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, changing priorities, stressful situations and complex assignments.
  • Ability to oversee and guide project managers, engineers, research analysts, marketing and graphic design staff, coordinators, assistants, and other staff.
  • Ability to take initiative, be proactive and work with minimal supervision.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with advanced DER technology market transformation programs
  • Familiarity with clean transportation policies and landscape
  • 10 years of experience in clean energy industry

Education:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Masters degree preferred

Experience:

  •  Minimum 6 years relevant experience

Licenses, Certificates or Registrations:

  • Valid California Drivers License; insurable in the State of California. 
  • PMP Certification or equivalent preferred
