CSE will take its highly regarded Green Career Adventure to the Los Angeles area this fall for seven presentations for students at events designed to introduce educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“The green energy sector of the economy is growing — and its future success requires more people trained in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable practices,” said Andrea Cook, CSE senior education manager.

The Green Career Adventure inspires interest in energy and new technologies by introducing students, teachers and counselors to the diverse spectrum of careers now available in sustainable energy industries. Support for the Los Angeles area presentations includes a $20,000 grant from Edison International.

At the events

Hands-on activities include working with solar panels, infrared cameras, wattmeters and other equipment. Discussions focus on jobs ranging from entry levels through positions requiring highly skilled training and advanced degrees. As a bonus, the lessons empower students to become advocates of smart energy management in their homes, schools and communities.

The Green Career Adventure will be at California State University Northridge, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1; the Energy Education Center in Irwindale and Santa Monica College, Nov. 3; Los Angeles Trade Tech College, Nov. 4; and L.A. Cash for College at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Nov. 5 and 6. The L.A. Cash for College event includes a family and community night from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
