The U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative has awarded the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP) and CSE nearly $800,000 over two years to develop solar-related educational materials and training for design professionals, including architects and engineers, in 22 key metropolitan areas across the nation.

The project will provide these building professionals the tools needed to better incorporate solar into their blueprints and designs and help eliminate barriers to solar adoption. The training will address topics such as basic technical information on solar photovoltaics (PV) and the benefits of enhanced PV deployment.

“Design professionals play a crucial role in solar deployment since they are in the unique position of educating building owners, appraisers and code officials as part of every project,” said architect Maureen Guttman, BCAP president.

Jessyca Henderson of the American Institute of Architects stated that the organization supports the training program, saying it represents “important and timely goals for our members.”
