CSE

Center for Sustainable Energy

Workforce training for the home performance industry exemplifies CSE’s commitment to better prepare workers and help increase energy efficiency of homes and buildings. Our turnkey training offerings are valuable to the contracting industry as well as for municipalities seeking to improve local home performance competency.

Through the GETUP Energy Upgrade Internship Program (2012-14), CSE provided classroom and hands-on field training and certification to entry-level professionals in the San Diego region. With an average class size of 11 students, GETUP delivered personalized training with CSE’s home performance experts and internships with companies seeking highly qualified employees.

Participants took the exam for the Building Performance Institute’s Building Science Principles Certificate of Knowledge, a nationally recognized certificate within the home performance industry. Eighty percent of trainees graduated, and nearly 60 percent completed paid, 40-hour professional internships with Energy Upgrade California® Home Upgrade participating contractors and raters.

Quotes and Testimonials

GETUP provided me with building science theory and knowledge, introducing me to the tools of the energy efficiency trade and associated products. During the field component, I got to apply what I learned and conducted an energy assessment at a San Diego house. This training has helped me immensely.

The GetUp program offered us a wide range of skill sets of employees. We have hired people for customer service, to do whole home energy assessment, and to do production home performance work.
