  2. Review, complete, and return the Participation Agreement to hes@energycenter.org. In addition to the agreement, please submit the following supporting documents:

  1. Complete the free Simulation Training and Test.
DOE offers new assessor candidates an online Simulation (Sim) Training course that involves a virtual home walkthrough designed to show a variety of situations you might encounter during an energy assessment. The Sim is free and can be completed at your own pace. The training and a written exam require about 8-12 hours to complete. Watch a short Sim overview video to find out more.

  2. Score your first home with a mentor.
Assessor candidates are required to score their first home with a mentor. This must be completed within six months of passing the Sim Training and written exam.

  3. Start scoring homes!
Congratulations! You are now a Home Energy Score Assessor. You will be provided with talking points, marketing materials and technical support to successfully integrate the Home Energy Score into your business model. To ensure quality assurance of the program, 5 percent of the homes you score will be re-scored by CSE home energy performance experts.
