Auto-DR technology enables your business to temporarily reduce energy use (also known as load reduction) automatically during demand response (DR) events.
Get paid to install Auto-DR technology and save money each year.
How it Works
When a utility calls a DR event, the Demand Response Automation Server (DRAS) sends out a signal via the internet that triggers your Auto-DR technology to automatically implement your preset load reduction preferences. Depending on your business, this might mean dimming lighting or precooling work areas. With Auto-DR, you can adjust your load reduction strategy at any time.
Equipment and Technologies
Utilities use the OpenADR standard to communicate with equipment at your facilities to automatically reduce electrical load during DR program events. To connect to the DRAS and receive DR signals, participating facilities must install and configure an eligible client compliant with the OpenADR 2.0a or above standard.
Utilities offer incentives for the purchase and installation of Auto‐DR enabling technologies or equipment, such as
- Wired and wireless controls for lighting, motors, pumps, fans, air compressors, process equipment, audio and video equipment, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
- Energy management system (EMS) software, including upgrades and reprogramming of existing controls
- EMS hardware
- Thermostats and other devices capable of receiving Auto‐DR signals
